A Sneek Peek at Alternative Universe in Poplar Bluff, MO

I tasted the food, drank some cocktails, and engaged with the staff about preserving tradition and how different things are in the LGBTQIA+ community. But unfortunately, things have become so commercial that the true meaning of pride is getting lost, forcing many to break away to places like Poplar Bluff. So while many venues are following in the footsteps of RuPaul, Boulet Brothers, and other Platforms, Alternative Universe is offering a space for Drag performers to grow outside of all major cities.

The House of Carrington entertained us for the evening, and I talked to the Bar Owner Scotty Barnes. Barnes told me that an entire community of Drag performers is working tirelessly to put the Alternative Universe on the map. Looking at the sold-out venue Saturday night, they have done an excellent job. Do not ever underestimate the power of the Drag community and how they travel in packs for a golden opportunity such as this. Bookings like this have defined artists, and the people of Poplar Bluff are just thrilled that so many legendary performers such as Kitty Litter, Honey Graham, and Tonia Carrington have already made their mark at Alternative Universe.

House of Chuck Magazine is honored to be asked to come out and return to the world of a drag after a five-year-long hiatus. We spoke to Zariah Dynasty Principle about her show on April 16th, 2022; she loves the two-hour drive away from the loud noises of St. Louis and is allowed to perform and tell her story. As a former drag photographer, it was beautiful to step into those shoes again. I remembered how fun it used to be and how shooting drag shows helped me master action shot photography. These are skills that I still use in the Fashion world.
